For Mother’s Day Weekend, I decided to write something a little different. The form you see below is called a Tanka; A japanese poetic form meaning short song. By design, this form does not rhyme and consists of thirty-one syllables written to a pattern of 5/7/5/7/7.
So…to all mothers, especially my own…here is my poem. Happy Mother’s Day!
Brighter than the sun
Hair kissed by the new dawn
I stare in wonder
A soft cheek upon my own
I’m born, and this is my sight.
