In the village of Kilgan, there was a Tavern Wench.
She flirted with her patrons, with spilt ale as her stench.
Her lover was a Blacksmith, and treated her unkind.
She left him for a Baker to find some piece of mind.
But the Baker was no better, his crust was often stale,
so she sought for a another, but her heart could not prevail.
He charmed her with words and deeds and watched her heart take flight.
The Knight was of good bloodline; the Tavern Wench much less,
but she still granted favors underneath her soiled dress.
She hinted of a union; dreams of manors in Valdeli,
but the Knight had refused her, fearing a bastard in her belly.
The Knight still had feelings, but the Tavern Wench felt scorned.
So she found solace with another, leaving him to mourn.
But the Knight found a maiden, whose bloodline did not lack,
while the Tavern Wench’s lover left bruises on her back.
***A song commonly sung by Bards at the Laughing Boar – a favorite of Sir Lambert of House Valere and the Knights of Kilgan.
