Though the release of my novel, Shadows of Kings, was less than a week ago, I felt it was time to step away from my world of Avalla, and pay some tribute to an artist that is dear to my heart.
We are all aware of the impact Lady Gaga has made on the music industry. But there is more to this Diva than flashy wardrobes and top 40 hits. Lady Gaga’s impact upon the world can also be felt outside of the music arena.
Lady Gaga has been an advocate of transgender, same-sex marriage and general gay right initiatives since appearing on the music scene. One of her most notable endeavors was appearing at an annual Europride parade in Rome, where the Vatican staunchly opposes any such legislation.
But Mother Monster does not stop with sexual orientation issues. Her Born this Way Foundation is dedicated to “reaching out” to youths with the hope of creating awareness for anti-bullying. And her foundation is not just a name. She has donated over 1 million dollars to the Born this Way Foundation, which has also allied itself with the MacArthur Foundation, the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and the Berkman Center for Internet & Society.
So parents, when you cringe because your fourteen year old daughter squeals over the latest Gaga video…don’t be too quick to judge. This wonderful human being is more than just an entertainer who wears meat dresses at award shows. Lady Gaga is an advocate for those whose voice is often drowned by the throng of humanity who feel threatened by those different from themselves. We should all remember…We were Born this way.
And yes…I will soon resume with updates regarding my blog tour for Shadows of Kings.
But until then…thank you, Lady Gaga.
