The sequel to the award winning, Shadow of Kings continues with Shades of Virtue. While the Hugue recovers from the devastation, the Order of the Secret Throne resumes their agenda. Lord Yannic and his armies march the breadth of the Vol Thaldane to rally the divided Human fiefdoms into the new realm of Shyrlandia, while engaging the Braug tribes and Harhn Hordes still plaguing the region. And like so many wearing the heraldry of the Dragon, he must confront the Order’s agenda, and question the sacrifices to be made for the greater good.

In the Hugue, a jousting tournament is about to commence that will determine who wins Lady Basina’s hand in marriage. With the tournament Champion also foreseen to have an impact on Shyrlandia’s future, the Council of Whispers dispatch Lady Lucia and her two apprentices, Dragana and Tallya to oversee the event. But the Order is not the only party interested in the tournament. From her tower in Kethalon, Rizela, the Darkfey sorceress, conspires and schemes to manipulate the tournament for her own ends. Amidst the spectacle of pageantry and martial prowess, Lucia must uncover the dark powers wishing to thwart the Order’s agenda, while supervising her headstrong apprentices. There is more at stake than winning a lady’s hand, for whoever wins the tournament will set events in motion that will forever impact the future realm of Shyrlandia, the Vol Thaldane, and the Hugue.

1) What is the working title of your book?

My latest release sheduled for this summer is Shades of Virtue – the sequel to Shadows of Kings

 2) Where did the idea come from for the book?
My sons and I have always enjoyed having jousts with our plastic knights, so much of the inspiration came from them.
3) What genre does your book fall under?
Epic Fantasy
4) Which actors would you chose to play characters in a movie rendition?
Lucia – Amanda Seyfried
Rizela – Angolina Jolie
Dragana, Marcel, Lambert, and Aimon…hmmm…that would take more thought.
5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
The fate of Humanity on the tip of a lance.
6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Published by Twilight Times Books and I don’t like sharing money with agents. (Unless they can get me a movie deal)
7) How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
It’s hard for me to pin down how long a project takes. I am generally working on three at a time.
8) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
My world definitely has a Game of Thrones feel to it.
9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?
My children and my love for all things fantasy.
10) What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
There are good knights…and not so good knights. Combine that with magic, and you have quite the backdrop.

November passed in a blur of caffeine and nicotine. Thirty days of relentless writing to meet the 50k goal was quite the endeavor. I would love to brag and say…”Ah, it was no sweat.” But that would not be the case, despite my longing to brag until I’m breathless. Be as that may, I did achieve my goal with flying colors, and now I have a project on the shelf that I will return to in good time. I am not going to disclose any info in regards to this project, but I will give you one hint…E L V E S. And no…not the kind that are molested by the fat man in the red suit. Sorry…that was so wrong. Oh, but I digress. The point of this article is simple. If I can do it, anyone can. I have written prior articles in regards to the use of discipline when it comes to writing. It’s a muscle that requires constant flexing. 50k words in one month is extreme. You can be just as productive at 1/3 of that level and still produce a piece of work in a timely manner. The key word being “produce.” Sit down and write that novel. Your muse is waiting.

Now…Back to my Dragon Rising Series.

Two weeks have passed since the initial release of Shadows of Kings. Before I pay homage to some of the bloggers who have contributed to my Blog Tour, here are some quotes contributing to the buzz.

“Shadows of Kings has grit Martin would be proud of and magic equal to Sanderson.” Customer review.

“It has the creative elements of a Tolkien world with the more human, gritty and medieval elements of a George R.R. Martin book.” – Customer review

“Do you enjoy knights with flashing swords and fair maidens with a touch of sorcery? Are stories containing battle scenes aided by magic your favorite reads? If you answered yes to the above, you’ll want to read Jack Whitsel’s debut novel, SHADOWS OF KINGS, where he gives you both and much more” – The Story of a Writer

“What a great start for a series! Shadows of Kings is an excellently written, impressive first novel that will be savored by fans of fantasy.” – The Seattle PI
