ShadesofVirtue_medWhen I proposed the concept to the publisher, the senior editor had her doubts that he could pull it off. I never doubted, and sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, Ural Akyuz has hit another home run. I cannot say enough about his artistic abilities.

Now that the cover art is complete, Ural’s next endeavor will be some new art for my swag. If you love Dragons, then you will not be left wanting.

As far as the release of Shades of Virtue is concerned, the actual date has not been nailed down yet by Twilight Times Books, but I’m still hopeful for an end of summer or early fall release.  Trust me, I am just as frustrated as you are, but sometimes that is how things roll in this industry. If you enjoyed Shadows of Kings, I promise the wait will be worth it.

The third book, Shards of Malice is almost complete. I am just putting on the finishing touches. In the months to come, there will be an announcement about a new series related to my Avalla universe.

That wraps things up for now. I hope you like the cover of the second installment of the Dragon Rising series.

Oceans of Love,

Jack

1) What is the working title of your book?

My latest release sheduled for this summer is Shades of Virtue – the sequel to Shadows of Kings

 2) Where did the idea come from for the book?
My sons and I have always enjoyed having jousts with our plastic knights, so much of the inspiration came from them.
3) What genre does your book fall under?
Epic Fantasy
4) Which actors would you chose to play characters in a movie rendition?
Lucia – Amanda Seyfried
Rizela – Angolina Jolie
Dragana, Marcel, Lambert, and Aimon…hmmm…that would take more thought.
5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
The fate of Humanity on the tip of a lance.
6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Published by Twilight Times Books and I don’t like sharing money with agents. (Unless they can get me a movie deal)
7) How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
It’s hard for me to pin down how long a project takes. I am generally working on three at a time.
8) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
My world definitely has a Game of Thrones feel to it.
9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?
My children and my love for all things fantasy.
10) What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
There are good knights…and not so good knights. Combine that with magic, and you have quite the backdrop.

Hello everyone!

Sharp Writ Book AwardsNow that we have survived the Mayan calendar and the Fiscal Cliff, the new year holds wonderous possibilities. 2013 has started with a bang for the Dragon Rising series. Shadows of Kings won the best sci-fi/fantasy novel for 2012 at the Sharp Writ Book Awards. As proud as I am of the first installment to my saga, it was wonderful to win this award in such a broad category with other amazing authors. I was satisfied by just making it to the final round, but when notified of taking first place, needless to say, I was elated and still find myself walking with a little more swagger.

On another note:  there are whispers of a Shadows of Kings movie script being put together. The screenplay will be a collaboration between myself and a group of writers in Northern California. But until there is more on the development side, I’m afraid there is not much more I can tell you.

The final edits are underway for the second book of the Dragon Rising series. Shades of Virtue is still projected to be released by Twilight Times Books in Summer 2013. I’m also hoping the book cover will be completed soon, but like everything else…I just have to wait. For those who were expecting Shades of Virtue to be released in Spring of 2013 instead of Summer, I apologize. Twilight Times Books had some delays with releases prior to mine, so the pipeline became a little backlogged. Though scheduling is out of my hands, I  am still  sorry if you were hoping to read it by Spring. But I promise, the delay will be worth the wait.

PRICE BUZZ:  For those who prefer paperback rather than e-book, Amazon.com currently has the best price for Shadows of Kings at $13.46. Kindle and Nook formats are still $3.99. Just want to make sure potential readers are saving a buck! Oh…and if you’re in the Portland, Or. area, my favorite bookstore to snag my novel is still Jan’s Paperbacks.

Shadows of Kings also has a spotlight/review within the January issue of BTS eMag.

I think that covers it. Many thanks to all those who have sent warm sentiments in regards to my award. And a special thanks to those who continue to express an interest with the Dragon Rising series.

Oceans of Love,

Jack

There are moments in movie entertainment when one looks at the cast and says…”You were born for this role.” That was my immediate impression when I heard Angolina Jolie was going to be cast as Maleficent. Disney’s makeover of the classic includes changing the title to Maleficent – the antagonist in Sleeping Beauty.

Robert Stromberg is making his Feature Film Directing Debut after years of being a leader in Visual Effects and Production Design. With creative credits from Avatar and Alice in Wonderland, I believe Maleficent is a perfect transition from his former endeavors.

Sleeping Beauty has always been my favorite Disney film, but the anticipation I have for Maleficent is exponentially increasing by the day. Though my characters in Shadows of Kings were inspired by an amalgamation of people, events and personal inspiration, I have to admit that shades of my arch-villain, Rizela was inspired by the original Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty. And wouldn’t you know it, when daydreaming of an actress to play Rizela, the first star that came to mind was Angolina Jolie. But Stromberg beat me to the punch. That’s ok, Angolina…you can still be Rizela…Call me!

Matt, Bj, Amber and Max – Staff of the Peppermill

June 30th marked the day of the Shadows of Kings Release Party. It was the first time in months that I was able to take a deep breath and enjoy the moment. Friends and family gathered to join me this night as well as fans and patrons of the Peppermill Restaurant and Lounge. The staff was adorned in my swag, and let me tell you…they looked great. But for all the pomp and circumstance, I was honestly humbled by the showing and filled with enormous gratitude. Everyone in attendance, in some way or another has supported me on this journey. I can’t say thank you enough. For those who could not take part, you missed a fun time.

Now to the pictures. I wish there could have been more of them, but as the night progressed, so did the

level of consumption. Luckily, I was able to complete my signing responsibilities before a few rum & cokes turned to four and five. Also…the demon-like white eyes in nearly all my shots were not intentional…or was it? A big thanks again to all who attended.

And a special THANK YOU  to Amber, Max (Young squire), Matt, and BJ, who tirelessly served our drinks and food to us in a timely and efficient manner. You guys are the best!

Me and Staff.
